From “Little Athens” to Florence — the making of Stupore
Set 5th, 2025 In : News By : admin 0 Comments
In the heart of Tuscany, in Pietrasanta — known worldwide as “The Little Athens” for its centuries-old bond with sculpture — a unique work of art is taking shape. Candidate for Italian Capital of Contemporary Art 2027, Pietrasanta is the beating heart of an extraordinary creative process that will culminate on November 26 in Florence at the unveiling of Stupore.

Following the concept and design by Paolo Del Bianco, and under his direction, master artisans from Pietrasanta and Querceta, with contributions from San Gimignano, Reggello and Florence, are bringing Stupore to life through a rich journey of materials and techniques:

from clay and marble to  “moulding” bronze, brass, and steel; from fine engraving to precision forming; up to resilent IP65 lighting. To better capture the “art of nature” of which Stupore is a part, we created a life-size installation in wood and fiberglass, to experience the emotion of feeling the soul of “Stupore.

These artisans have worked for some of the world’s greatest artists — Botero, Mitoraj, Cascella, Yasuda — whose works are currently exhibited in Pietrasanta’s Piazza Duomo and Sant’Agostino complex until September 21.

On November 26, Stupore will be unveiled for the first time — not as an object to be admired from a distance, but as a living symbol of the Life Beyond Tourism® philosophy, created to inspire action and commitment toward peace and intercultural dialogue.

Location: Auditorium al Duomo, Via de’ Cerretani 54/r, Florence
