The ICCROM Regional Centre in Sharjah is honoured to announce the celebration that will be held next Thursday, November 28, 2024, to announce the winning projects of the ICCROM-Sharjah Award for Good Practices in the Preservation and Protection of Cultural Heritage in the Arab Region and the Arab Cultural Heritage Award for the Young 2023-2024.

These awards, granted every two years under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, are among the most important heritage awards in the Arab world.

The ceremony, to be held on 28th November at ICCROM Regional Centre in Sharjah, will celebrate significant Arab practices in cultural heritage preservation and management.

A Grand Award will be presented for Good Practices in Cultural Heritage Conservation and Management in the Arab Region. Additionally, two Honourary Awards will be granted: one for Community Engagement and another for Conservation and Innovation.

The ceremony will also highlight the creativity of Arab youth who received the Arab Cultural Heritage Award for the Young, showcasing their talents in drawing, photography, awareness films, and folkloric dance.

Additionally, training workshops in arts, photography, and directing will be held for all first, second, and third-place winners in each category of the Arab Cultural Heritage Award for the Young before the ceremony.

During the event, historian and architect Professor Nasser Rabbat, who serves as the Aga Khan Professor of Islamic Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, will be honoured for his exceptional contributions to architecture and heritage.

The ICCROM Centre in Sharjah has recently announced that 18 projects have reached the final round of the ICCROM-Sharjah Award for Good Practices in the Preservation and Protection of Cultural Heritage in the Arab Region.

From 55 nominated projects, the shortlist showcases outstanding entries from the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Lebanon, Libya, Egypt, and Yemen.

The award programme demonstrates ICCROM-Sharjah’s commitment to protecting movable and immovable cultural heritage in the Arab region and raises public awareness about the significance of cultural heritage.

In other words, we try to contribute to foster the safeguarding of cultural Heritage according to the criteria set by the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict.
