Since the beginning of the project the partners decided to maintain the website created during the project to offer a space for information and experts communication about the several aspects related to planning and implementing appropriate measures for the protection of urban heritage at risk from natural events and human activities, including armed conflicts.
Within this framework, since now on, you will be gradually able to find thematically relevant information either browsing WATCH website or entering directly in www.warfreeheritage.net.
It is very clear that the implementation of the UNESCO 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, its Protocols and the related International Law is only possible using and multidisciplinary cross-sectoral approach.
The purpose of maintaining alive and active www.warfreeheritage.net, now embedded within in WATCH website, is to keep an open area dedicated to possible thematic follow-up of War Free World Heritage Listed Cities project. However, it is also our intention to establish a permanent open platform to report on the latest developments registered in planning and implementing risk preparedness measures for the protection of urban heritage areas. To achieve this result we count on contributions from reputed experts and concerned authorities that wish to share their concrete experience or to disseminate relevant news and information about any innovative approach to risk preparedness planning.
Starting March 16, 2015 those interested to contribute their concrete recent experiences in urban heritage protection can contact:
openeyes@eyeonculture.net
WATCH will keep this open eyes space to let also specialised NGOs, field experts and major stakeholders share their relevant experiences for the benefit and the inspiration of those within the global community who are about to undertake concrete measures to protect their heritage and have little or no experience in the preparation to and the management of heritage in emergency situation.
