The 2010-2011 WATCH plan of action was approved by the Board of Trustees. The plan focuses on an increased WATCH members in the continue effort to promote awareness and risk preparedness about the problems related to cultural heritage protection in critical areas and especially in highly conflictual areas. The promotion of Civil Military Cooperation will occupy a central space during this year of activity both within projects promoted by or granted to WATCH within international cooperation schemes. Support to international organisations engaged in the thematic areas addressed by WATCH will occupy a considerable space within the association agenda for the year. In this respect some important interaction already took place within the framework of initiatives promoted by the International Institute of Humanitarian Law and ICCROM where our association contributed with its expertise. Associate members will contribute also with several original thematic essays and reports throughout the year on topics concerning: sciences, technologies, CH management, civil military affairs, risk preparedness, etc. applied to CH protection. Those contributions will appear on WATCH web page with open access to public. These materials will be made available cast on-line as from May 2010. Census – a database on Cultural Heritage threatened in areas of high risk of conflict will be launched with support from various sources. This mapping will be of extreme importance in the event of conflicts and fully abides with provisions in the HC and its two protocols. During the period 2010 – 2011 two cycles of multidisciplinary training will take place. Training will focus on risk preparedness planning on WHL cities. This initiatives will be conducted in coordination with all the most relevant international organisations involved in the protection of CH in areas of armed conflicts. |
